Wax barcode ink (Ribbon Wax) is a type of ink with a higher ratio of wax compared to resin. It requires a temperature of around 65°C to print and is suitable for regular paper labels. Wax ink is cost-effective, offers moderate durability, is prone to scratches, and does not withstand high temperatures well. However, due to its affordability, it is widely used in retail, logistics, and industries requiring short-term information printing.

Key Features:

Wax barcode printing ink, also known as Ribbon Wax, is a type of roll ink used in barcode printers. This ink primarily consists of Wax (wax material), which is in higher proportion compared to Resin (plastic material). Due to the higher ratio of wax, Ribbon Wax only requires a temperature of around 65°C to melt and print, making it a cost-effective solution with good print quality while reducing the risk of damage to the print head.

Wax ink is ideal for use with label materials that have a paper coating, such as labels from Avery Dennison (Fasson), UPM, Lintec, etc. These are typical paper labels that can be torn by hand. Ribbon Wax is widely chosen for its affordability and effectiveness, particularly for applications that require high-speed printing at a low cost.

However, Ribbon Wax has some limitations. Because of its high wax content, this ink is not resistant to high temperatures, solvents, or strong physical impacts. Additionally, it is more prone to scratching, and the adhesion quality is not as high, which can result in reduced print quality when exposed to external environmental factors.

Characteristics:

  • Heat resistance: Not suitable for environments with high temperatures.
  • Solvent resistance: Poor resistance to solvents, meaning it is not ideal for applications requiring protection against strong chemicals.
  • Print quality: Good print quality, but it is easily scratched.
  • Adhesion: Moderate adhesion due to low melting point.
  • Affordability: The most cost-effective option among all types of barcode inks, making it perfect for applications that require high volume and low-cost solutions.

Wax Ribbon Sizes:

Wax Ribbon is available in various sizes to meet different needs and applications. The ribbons come in widths ranging from 30mm to 200mm, and the roll lengths are typically 74m, 100m, or 300m. Below are some common sizes:

  • 30mm x 300m
  • 35mm x 300m
  • 40mm x 300m
  • 160mm x 300m
  • 160mm x 450m
  • 200mm x 300m

The 110mm x 300m size is the most commonly used and chosen by many customers.

Applications:

Wax Ribbon is widely used across industries and services that require fast printing at low costs. Here are some key applications:

  1. Retail Industry: Used for printing labels in supermarkets, fashion shops, coffee shops, tea stores, restaurants, bookstores, etc.
  2. Shipping and Logistics: Used for printing shipping labels and item information to track goods and keep records of shipments.
  3. Envelope Labeling: Ribbon Wax is also used to print customer information on envelopes, saving costs in office tasks.
  4. Industries Requiring Short-Term Information Storage: For sectors such as retail, where information only needs to be kept for a short period.
  5. Paper Labels: Wax Ribbon is ideal for printing paper labels, but it does not print well on PVC and other plastic materials.

In Summary, Ribbon Wax barcode ink is an ideal choice for applications that require quick printing with a low cost while maintaining acceptable quality. However, it is not suitable for high-demand environments that require high durability, abrasion resistance, or heat resistance.
